Manchester United has lost a home game to Real Madrid with 1-2. Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric scored from Real Madrid, while the only goal for Manchester United was an own goal scored by Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos. On March 5 a Champions League game was held between Manchester United and Real Madrid. It was a second-round game of these teams, first game
ended with a draw 1-1. Anticipation before this game was very strong. ManU's coach Sir Alex Ferguson has surprised many people before the game by not putting one of the leaders of the team Wayne Rooney into starting eleven.
The game was very tense from the beginning, both teams tried to play accurate and goal-scoring opportunities were very few. However, Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic hit the post after the corner. Real enjoyed most of the possession, but struggled for a goal. This was due to strong defending from Manchester United.
Second half of the game turned out to be much more interesting, then the first half. On 48th minute Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos scored an own goal. After Manchester United's quick counterattack Real Madrid increased the pressure on ManU and tried to equalize immediately.
When it looked all bad for Real Madrid, the referee Cuneyt Cakir dismissed Manchester United's player Luis Nani and left "red devils" with 10 players. ManU argued with referee a lot, but Cakir didn't change his mind.
After this United started to look very vulnerable and the Spanish club took an advantage of it. On 66th minute Luka Modric scored a great goal from distance, which allowed Real Madrid to get back in the game. After only 3 minutes Cristiano Ronaldo had put The Royal Club in front after a pass from Gonsalo Iguain. United tried their best to level the score but failed to do so, due to an excellent performance by Real Madrid's goalkeeper Diego Lopes, who made great saves in the end of the match.
After the game ManU and Real Madrid players shared their thoughts with journalists. Christiano Ronaldo, who scored goal said:" it's a very strange feeling when you play against your ex club, but I have done my job and my job is to score goals for real. I didn't celebrate because I respect manchester united.I,m very happy with the result".
Joze Maurinho had also had his say after the game:" Manchester defended very well in first half, but in second half I put modric on the pitch and we started to play better. I don't want to discuss referee. We won and that is the most important".
Mike Phellan, who is an assistant of Sir Alex Fergiuson expressed his feeling about the game:" footballers feel very bad, because they throught that they played almost a perfect game, but we still lost and this can happen in football. We should concentrate on premier league now.
