Meeting with executive director Union “Sapari” organization

Violence against women is one the most critical topics in Georgia today. According to the MIF recent statistics, which, by the way, reflects only a small part of reality, because often aggrieved party, especially in Georgia, avoids filing a claim against a family member abuser, during the period 2007-2014 are recorded 1102 facts of violence, including 2223 individuals.

The number of men abusers is 1014, women – 82. During the mentioned period victims of domestic violence were 1010 women and 117 men.

Both local and foreign media widely covered the rally-performance “Womens’ Voice”, organized by Georgian women, which was aimed to attract attention of the state and the society towards the problem.

To discuss these issues we invited Baia Pataraia – lawyer, human rights’ defender, executive director of the Union “Sapari”.
