Pomegranate Festival in Azerbaijan

The 9th Pomegranate Festival was held in Goychay, 01 November 2014

Pomegranate is the mother product, king fruit of Goychay land. It is the only fruit in the world that has a crown.

The Goychay pomegranate is different from the pomegranate growing in other regions for its taste, sorts, quality. In ancient times, Azerbaijani ancestors held wealth festivals in honour of the pomegranate. The pomegranate is a symbol of absolution and desire.

Continuing ancient traditions, Goychay people hold the “Pomegranate Festival” every year and present the world product which they create by hard work.
Every year the guests of festival get a chance to taste different types of pomegranate produced in 32 villages of the region. In Azerbaijan, a sauce from pomegranate juice (narsharab) is usually served with fish or tika kabab. Pomegranate sauce is used as a salad dressing, to marinate meat, or simply to drink straight. Pomegranate seeds are also used in salads and sometimes as garnish for desserts.
